March 7th 2009

Hi guys, just copied the version 1.4 zip file up to the download folder (http://www.sqlexcel.net/dload/sql_excel_setup.zip) so it is available there for anyone wanting to upgrade. There were several bug fixes that went through and also several enhancements. The main enhancement was the addition of the settings/options tabs on the "About" form (the form that you can load from the coffe cup button on the toolbar). This is essentially the "options" form now too.  One minor thing to note about this form is that the "connection" tab on the form does not have anything on it yet. In the next version we will have the cache settings there - storing the meta data details of databases locally (to speed up the connection process)

IF you are going to upgrade, its a good idea to (1) take a copy of your connection_settings.xml file (so you don't have to recreate your connections and (2) uninstall the previous version of the addin from the control panel before installing the new one

As before - this is an Excel for Windows add-in so it wont work on a mac.

If you are upgrading from a previous verson - please make sure you uninstall the previous version. You can use the "Add or Remove" programs from the admin area in windows to do this.  Its a good idea to back up your connections file before uninstalling so you don't have the hassle of recreating the connections again with the new version.

For the actual download, it takes a few days for this to go through on Downloads.com so for now you can download only here http://www.sqlexcel.net/dload/SQL_Excel_Setup.zip

Please note:  If you decide to install the add-in it would be great   SQL Excel Add-inif you could provide some feedback - criticisms and suggestions are very welcome.  There is a forum to post up issues, questions, suggestions etc.  Feedback will help keep the add-in moving forward so please help out with some if you like the add-in.  I recently came back from a long distance bicycle tour and decided to do this freeware project while looking for a job.  Another thing that would be a big help (if you find the add-in useful...) would be to "tag" a page.  Thank You, Al

Please look in "Latest News" towards the right hand side of this page for a short video clip of the add-in. There is one Flash and one Quicktime (mov) demo.  You will need the relevent player installed for these demos to work on your machine.
