More Than 255 Characters not extracted on DB2 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Hi Everyone

One of the users sent me a message about a problem he had earlier today and I am pasting it up so everyone can see this issue.

"Hi,
IN this tool when i started using it first time i tried to extract Data from a DB2
Connection the connection and every thing else Went on fine but in some of our
tables we have more than 255 characteres in a data Cell at that point the tool would
fail and stop the Paste Process Further...May be i think its a limitation of
Excel...But i also hope that this problem can be tentatively solved...
Thanks and regards,"

I am looking into this and will be back with an update on it quite soon. There is an 255 text character limit in certain circumstances - I need to check the specifics of this.
On an initial check with SQL Server, MYSQL and Access there was no issue with this but I dont have DB2 on this machine (DB2 was tested though but by a friend..). I will be back on this with an update soon in any case.

Please report any issues that you have. Thanks and have a nice evening.

Al

I am having the same problem with SQL 2005 express and Version 1.3 SQL Excel, When pasted to excel it fails on cells with more than 255 characters. Any fix yet?

Hi

Very sorry for the delay in replying. The post slipped through the cracks there sorry.

There are limitations on the number of characters you can import into an excel cell - depending on the version of excel you are using.

One thing would be to make sure the file version if not in dual format (excel 95 + 97 or something like that). See this article for this point http://www.dnzone.com/ShowDetail.asp?NewsId=234

Another thing to check would be the relevent to first records in the recordset - if none of these records have fields over 255 in length it is possible that you might have this problem (have seeen this alot with Access reports using MS Query). Please see this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/189897 for this point.

Very sorry again for the delay. Please let me know if you got that problem fixed when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Al
