excel embedded link issue 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Hi everyone, I got an email from a user that has SQL Excel working fine, however, it seems like he
has unusual behaviour with the embedded links within excel (the microsoft functionality..)

To be clear on this, SQL Excel can only be used at the moment to set up the links - once they are setup then you are working with the Microsoft Data Link technique.

In any case, it sounds like this situation involved a corrupted workbook. This can happen sometimes and the easiest fix that I know of it to recreate the workbook from scratch by using the "Move or Copy" worksheet functionality.

In any case, here is the original post for the record. IF anyone has any ideas of a better fix it would be great if you could post it up. Thanks, Al

I have successfully intalled /run ur excellent utility
I do however run into constant problems with linking
to excel files/ it either fails on recognising odbc
or the excel file link/
is there anyway of finding out what casuse these failures
I have one good working excel file with named data range/ with I can use but it means copying everything from the failed excel file link to the working one ? I equally find on clicking connect button error message comes up but repeat action and it works ? finally on the extreme right of screen in your flash demo on how to embed/ a list of available files appears / or have i misinterpreted th screen window (images blurred-(or possibly my fogged up specs) thanks for any comment and good luck with life jfr

I don't know if this will help or not, but when I was not able to figure out how to connect to another Excel workbook using the wizard, I simply typed in my own connection screen in the Edit text box. It works great every time. See the attached image as an example (jpg).

In case the image is not viewable, this is an example of what I type in the connection string text box:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\HRIW\Rational\RationalWHC.xls;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;

This is all one sentence with no spaces, but the text box makes it look like there are two lines.

HTH!
