Hi Giefhell !
Sorry for the problem.

It seems like you dont have full permissions on the xml setting file. You need to be able to write to this file to store your database connection profiles. The file is located in "C:\Program Files\SQL Excel" or the equivalent on your machine.

The easiest way to fix this should be to
- uninstall the add-in (from the control panel)
- download the new version and install it.

The new version puts the XML settings in a sub-folder of "My Documents" and you should normally be automatically permissioned to read/write to the file.

You can download the new version here http://www.sqlexcel.net/dload/sql_excel_setup.zip

Excel 2007 and Vista is fine..

Please let me know if this fixes the problem. Thanks,
Al

I have the same problem 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
and I believe I have the latest version: 1.30.2. Please tell me if it is not. Is there a manual fix? I don't really want to go through the installation again.

Thanks

Buyi

Hi

Sorry you are having a probem..

You can see the version you have by hitting the coffe cup button on the right of the SQL Excel Toolbar.. If you have version 1.3 you have an uptodate version and don't normally need to upgrade. If you have version 1.2 or earlier you will need an upgrade ....

If you have version 1.3 or greater,
- you need to look I think at your file permissions on the connection_settings.xml file.

The add--in needs to be able to read and write to this file as the connection strings are stored in it. With version 1.3 or later,
- the locatin of the Conection_Settings.xml file on a Pre Vista version of windows is the equivalent of C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\sqlexcel
- On a Vista version of windows, it is the equivalent of C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\sqlexcel

[If you windows is configured in a language other that English, you will have to use your local language for the paths above]

When you find the connection_settings.xml file, you need to make sure you have Read and Write permissions on it.

Ok, sorry for this problem, when you get a chance please can you check that you have the write permissions and please let me know how it goes. Will do my best to help,
thanks, Al

hi ! Sorry to hear you are still having this problem.

Please can you uninstall the addin and then download (http://www.sqlexcel.net/downloads) and install the current version.
This will make it easier to find the problem.

If you are still having problems with the current version I can give you a vba macro to help narrow down this issue.

But I think you should be fine with the current version.

Please let me know how it goes when you can.

Thanks, Al
