How setup a connection to Progression (Pervasive) 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
I have tried to use an ODBC connection to Progression that work fine with other tool (WinSQL), but I found only OLE DB connection and trying with MD for ODB I was able to execute select * from table and work fine but when I tried to execute select fieldx from table produce an error from the connection driver.

Is it possible to use simply an ODBC connection ?

Hola !

Sorry for the problems you are having.

If the SELECT * FROM a table is working fine then it seems like the connectivity is ok and you can connect ok.

You should be able to retrieve data via ODBC or OLE DB.

Please can you try to select just one field to see if it works with a a very simple query (a good way to run the check would be to use the Query Builder and not to type the query in manually..)

You may find a problem where the syntax in SQL Excel is handled incorrectly... I have not tested against Pervasive but I think it should be ok. Please can you try to play around with the syntax and see if you can make it work.
IF you still have the problem please can you send me an example of a SQL Query which gives an error.

Also, If you have a problem, I will send you a simple VBA function that you can execute from MS office. This should help trying to resolve the problem..

Thanks and have a nice weekend.
Al

Look at the attached file.
I execute select * and works fine.
I execute select field 1 from table using the Query builder and error appears.

The file didn't load because of size restriction. Could you give me an email address in order to send the file ?

Hi
Sorry the problem. I meant to install a pervasive demo to try this but did not get a chance yet.

Here are some ideas of what I would try. I can't say exactly till I have pervasive installed. Will do it as soon as possible..

- First I would try to connect using the exact same connection string as you are using from WIN SQL. Paste the same connection string (you are using from WIN SQL) into the connection string text box in the Edit Connection Profile form.

- From your word doc, normally you should be able to connect without a problem by using the
"Pervisive Produccion" - System DSN. I guess you have tried this already but just in case..
- you should have the OLE DB provider, so I would set up a new DSN for "Pervasive OLE DB Provider" and try that.

I will install this as soon as possible to try to reproduce the problem. Again sorry you are having all these issue.

Pleaase also let me know which version of Pervasive you are connecting to and also which version of the Pervasive ODBC driver you are using.. Lastly, the windows operating system you are on.
This will help me reproduce the problem.

You can contact me at admin at sqlexcel net replace the "at" with @

Please let me know how it goes with the above. Thanks, Al

Hi again,

Also, please can you check that the error is not occuring on a specific field. Also, please try to see if the problem only occurs on certain table.s
This will help narrow the issue down if you can get it working against certain fields..
Thanks, al

Just coming back on this with a note..

The issue is still open for Hidalgo, however, I did test SQL Excel with pervasive and there was no problem connecting and querying etc.

Hidalgo - please can you can reinstall the Pervasive client and see if this fixes the problem. One of the drivers might be corrupted.. It will be good if you can see if all is ok with a reinstall..

If you dont want to do this, then maybe you can temporarily install the new version of Pervasive - the trial.. And see if this is working.. This will help narrow down the issue.

Please let me know. Thanks, Al
