Tool bar does not show up after installation. 7 Months ago Karma: 0
My Excel version is 2003.

I have tried several times installing and uninstalling, but could not get the toolbar. I can locate where the .dll file. For short term solution--how am I able to get the tool bar up manually?

I am using a company computer, and have to get IT to install for me since I don't have administrator previlidge. I also noticed that when the IT was tring to access the register by regedit, the Computer did not allow him to do so. Is it possible some thing was not registered but no error message was prompt so we are left in the dark?

Thanks

Buyi

Hi

Sorry you are having a problem.

Please check the following
(1) If the add-in has installed correctly, you may just need to display the toolbar.
In Excel, from the menu, please

- select VIEW from the main
- Select TOOLBARS from the list
- Make sure the "SqlExcel" toolbar is checked. It is displays then you are fine.

(2) As you mentioned you need admin priviledges to install the add-in.
Also, it needs to installed for your User ID (Login ID). So if the admin installs it for the Admin account and not for your User Account, SQL Excel will not be available..

If this is the case, you can ask the Admin to reinstall it for your User Account.

- I would check to see that you have the files on your machine.
The default location is "C:\Program Files\SQL Excel"
In this folder you should see the SQLExcel.dll file
- Next, I would try to manually register the file
To do so, you can select START and then RUN and then enter and run this command
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\SQL Excel\SQLExcel.dll"
[REPLACE THIS FOLDER NAME WITH THE ACTUAL FOLDER ON YOUR COMPUTER]
You should get a message that the registration succeeded.

If the admin registers the file for your account. The add-in should be available.
Please let me know how this goes. I hope this fixes the problem

Al

Al,

Thanks, did not have to bother the administrator. I just registered the file and restarted (I am not too sure whether the restart was necessary).

The tool bar did not appear immediately although the item was checked in the toolbar menu. I deselected and checked it again then it appeaed as a popup on the screen. Then I moved it to the tool bar area.

Can't wait to explore this useful tool.

Hiya Buyi !

That is great. Very good you got it going fine. The registration of the file must have failed for some reason during the normal install..
In any case, great you got it going.
Let me know how it goes.
Have a nice day there,
Al

Hi Nir

Thanks alot for signing up on the site !

Hope all is fine.

Sorry for the problem. It sounds like you installed it for the admin account but not for the windows account you are using.

Before logging in as admin though I would make sure that the addin is installed but not visible withint excel as a toolbar. This is possible with Excel and you can check it if you look in VIEW and then TOOLBARS and see if SQL Excel is unchecked there. If it is not listed there, I would login using the admin account and see if it is availalbe there. It sounds like this is what happened. If this is the case, then you would need to reinstall - making sure you install it for the account you want to use..
Please let me know how it goes.. Thanks again and have a nice evening. Al
