Hi Randy
Hope the weekend is going great.
I took a look at this again and have some new things I would like to try.
Am going to rebuld a new version of the installation package now with a new DEV version of the addin. Will be back shortly when it is done.
If you have time over the weekend to try it out it will be great.
Back in a bit. Al

Hi Again Randy
Just copied across a new version of the installation package.
Please can you uninstall the addin and delete the program folder and then install using this version. (http://www.sqlexcel.net/dload/temp/)
I am keeping my fingers crossed on this..
Please let me know how it goes when you can.
Al

Al;
I really appreciate everything that you're doing to try to get this working for me.
I downloaded the files from the FTP (SQLExcel.msi and SQLExcel.dll). I ran the install and everything seems to go as expected. However, when I go into Excel and look at the "add-ins", SQLExcel is not in there. I checked the Program Files\SQLExcel folder and the only file in the folder is SQLExcel.dll with a date/time of 8/31/2008 1:50PM.
I tried the install twice (did an Add/Remove Programs Uninstall both times). Same result both times (i.e. didn't show-up in the Excel add-ins.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi Randy
Sorry you are having a problem. Thanks for working through this with me.
It is fine to see the SQL Excel Dll on its own there. The other application files should be in "Document and Settings"
Please check the followingwhen you can.
(1) If the add-in has installed correctly, you may just need to display the toolbar.
In Excel, from the menu, please
- select VIEW from the main
- Select TOOLBARS from the list
- Make sure the "SqlExcel" toolbar is checked. Please see if you still have the same issue or not.
(2) I am pretty sure you have an Admin account. Also, it needs to installed for your User ID (Login ID). So if the admin installs it for the Admin account and not for your User Account, SQL Excel will not be available.. I think this is fine though for you as you installed it before. Just mentioning it in case..
I would try to manually register the file (Excel and the other office applications should be closed when you do this).
To do so, you can select START and then RUN and then enter and run this command
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\SQL Excel\SQLExcel.dll"
[REPLACE THIS FOLDER NAME WITH THE ACTUAL FOLDER ON YOUR COMPUTER]
You should get a message that the registration succeeded.
If the admin registers the file for your account. The add-in should be available.
Then, hopefully we are back to the position where you have it installed correctly at least..
But the fact the install went badly is kindof good and it is might be the reason for the modal form before. Registering the DLL will hopefully fix it. Please let me know how it goes.
Happy labour day !
Al

Al;
I'm not seeing the Toolbar Options in the VIEW tab in Excel 2007. Is it somewhere else in Excel 2007?

Hi Randy
Thanks for going though all that.
Not good news on that unfortunately. Ok, I need to try to come up with a way to work this through.
I think i have read every article on the internet about this non modal issue but have not found a solution yet there. I need to probably build a simple non modal form within a dLL (just a very simple form) to reproduce the issue again on your machine..
If we do this then it will point the problem at the Excel/Automation installation. Sorry for that - not trying to point the cause elsewhere.. but it can happen sometimes that the excel installation has some issues.
Before going there, I would like to send you a simple forn within a DLL to see if we can reproduce the issue.
Sorry, I dont have a better idea at this point. This is all I can think of right now.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks, Al
