*Terms and Conditions for Sybase ASE Express Edition for Linux:

  • ASE Express Edition is limited to use of one CPU, 5GB of data storage and 2GB of RAM.
  • No other purchase is required.
  • Optional support plans, including telephone support and named support contacts, are available starting at $2200 per year. Advanced support plans are also available.
  • Developers interested in re-distributing ASE Express Edition can contact Sybase's Business Solutions Alliance team for more information.
  • Internally, ASE Express Edition limits the number of server engines started. Only one CPU can be utilized. So, while ASE Express Edition can be installed/deployed on machines of any size (multi-processor machines), the ASE will only take advantage of one of those processors.
  • The 2 GB RAM limitations is the maximum amount of main memory that can be configured for ASE's "max memory" configuration parameter. This parameter controls the total amount of memory available for ASE to configure memory caches and other memory buffers. The ability to address up to 64 GB of memory through the "extended memory cache" feature (through AWE) is not available in ASE Express Edition. So, while ASE Express Edition can be installed/deployed on machines with RAM greater than 2 GB, ASE Express Edition will not utilize more than 2 GB for its memory cache and buffer needs for each instance. (It is possible that ASE will use slightly more than 2 GB in total due to some data structures not included in this max memory parameter.)
  • Similarly, while ASE can be installed and deployed on machines with very large disks, a single instance of ASE Express Edition can only utilize up to 5 GB of disk space for all of its databases.

Please note that these limits apply to each instance of ASE Express Edition. You can have many instances of ASE Express Edition running on a machine (e.g., a multiprocessor machine), and hence in total, all of these instances could utilize more than one processor, more than 2 GB of RAM and manage more than 5 GB of disk space.
