New MSI Package for SQL Excel version 1.4 Released Print E-mail

March 15th 2009

Hi, hope everyone is having a nice weekend.  Just quick fyi.  There was some strange problem with the 1.4 installation package and it happened for some people that the SQLExcel.dll was not registered during the installation. A new package was released today that should fix this problem.  Basically, I did manage to reproduce this issue on Vista 32 and the new package from today worked fine on Vista 32. So hopefully this package is perfect.

If this does happen to you however, please could you report it back so it can be checked out. If it does happen you can use the REGSVR32 (regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\SQL Excel\SQLExcel.dll"  replacing the path with the path on your system) command to manually register the SQLExcel.dll  IT should not happen though and this was tested on Windows XP and Vista for different versions of Excel.

The new version 1.4 zip file up to the download folder (http://www.sqlexcel.net/dload/sql_excel_setup.zip) so it is available there for anyone wanting to upgrade. There were several bug fixes that went through and also several enhancements. The main enhancement was the addition of the settings/options tabs on the "About" form (the form that you can load from the coffe cup button on the toolbar). This is essentially the "options" form now too.  One minor thing to note about this form is that the "connection" tab on the form does not have anything on it yet. In the next version we will have the cache settings there - storing the meta data details of databases locally (to speed up the connection process)

IF you are going to upgrade, its a good idea to (1) take a copy of your connection_settings.xml file (so you don't have to recreate your connections and (2) uninstall the previous version of the addin from the control panel before installing the new one

As before - this is an Excel for Windows add-in so it wont work on a mac.

For the actual download, it takes a few days for this to go through on Downloads.com so for now you can download only here http://www.sqlexcel.net/dload/SQL_Excel_Setup.zip

Thanks, Al
