Oracle Driver Problem 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi,

I ran across this tool and thought I'd give it a try. Install went fine but when I tried to set up a connection it did not display oracle driver from oracle. It only displays Microsoft oracle driver. I rechecked and my ODB adminstrator reviewed showed them installed and available via programs such as MS Access. Have any idea why is doesn't show up for use with this tool?

Thanks,
Jeff

hi Jeff

Sorry you are having a problem.

The data link form is a microsoft component.. SQL Excel just uses it as a simple way to setup a connection.

Normally you should see it. Which version of Oracle are you using ? Sorry but I would check the installation of the Oracle drivers.. Not for SQL Excel but it is weird that you cannot see them from the Data Link form.

Please can you try to setup the connection by using the ODBC administrator (control panel and then Administrative Tools).

Here you should be able to setup a DSN to the Oracle driver and then from SQL Excel you can select this DSN (or paste in the connection string from the DSN).

Please let me know how it goes when you get a chance.

Thanks and have a nice weekend
Al

I tried that and it works! Not sure why I didn't try it before. Guess I thought as part of the tabs I had to select correct driver then more or less create a DSN.

Still strange I can't see the Oracle driver through the SQL Excel tool but can else where but I've come to accept that with computers many strange things occur.

Thanks for your help! Now on to test using the tool.

Thanks!
